I was brought in as a consulting creative director to oversee the launch of the Oprah.com redesign. RED Interactive Agency had been working on blue-sky concepts and I was tasked with incorporating those ideas and coming up with a design system flexible enough to handle the 1000s of articles, 100s of videos, and several show sub-sites.
The Oprah.com website hadn't been updated in years so it was pretty outdated and the mobile experience was not great. There was a lack of consistency between the different Oprah properties as well. Oprah.com had an editorial component with 1000s of articles so we needed a design system that could handle all that legacy content.
With over 40 unique sections to be redesigned in a short period of time, a flexible and easily editable system was needed. At the same time, we didn't want cookie cutter pages that all looked the same. We came up with a responsive, modular design that allowed simple page building with enough variety to create distinct pages.
Unique designs can be had by providing a background image and CSS coloring. Responsive modules give editors options and allow for variety while ensuring a clean design regardless of configuration.
As part of the marketing campaign for the launch of the Super Soul 100 we worked on title treatment concepts to be used on social media marketing and the main promo banner on the website. One featured a collage of the innovators while the other drew you in with a series of playful bubbles growing into a field of 100.
OWN wanted a very visual method of navigating their television programming so we created an intuitive and impactful design that allows you to quickly scan through a day horizontally and easily jump between days vertically.
We worked with marketing on several sponsored sales initiatives. Shift Your Life was a self improvement diagnostic program that allowed users to take an assessment quiz that generated a personalized content program.
We also worked on a series of multiweek paid courses created for a select group of teachers such as Brene Brown, Iyanla Vanzant and Arianna Huffington. Specialized tools such as movement, stress, and sleep trackers were designed for Arianna to help students maintain a healthy lifestyle.
To promote the launch of the Belief television series, we designed a site that invited users to submit their own beliefs in three words. The resulting card could then be shared to various social media channels. We designed the intro using imagery from the show along with quotes from Oprah to explain the concept. That intro seamlessly transitioned into the input interface.
Live on Times Square! Select submissions from the Belief social media campaign along with a mix of celebrity quotes were posted on times square.
